Past Chili Fest Highlights
It was an absolutely picture perfect Pats Peak day as the chili faithful started arriving.
and arriving. and arriving for the 12th Annual Henniker Rotary Club Fire on the Mountain Chili Fest.
With 38 different types of chili to sample, hot dogs, hamburgers, Arnies BBQ, JR's Roasted Corn and Kona
Ice also on the menu, it was a day of feasting and festing. White Birch Community Center kept the Kid
Zone hopping with their giant bubbles, nail painting and games and Michaels Craft Store helped the kids
make and decorate foam sun visors. The Monarchs had lots of action at their slap shot game and
everyone wanted to cuddle up with Mascot Max, even the parents!
Over on the far slope, we had a great showing of vintage cars and trucks for the Cruise In and
everyone was pleased to have the cars back as part of the event. We had a wonderful mix of
vendors this year selling jewelry, spices, hot sauce, aprons, ice cream and handing out important
and useful information. Once again, Tap Snap, the photo booth for the digital age was a great hit with everyone.
Judges Nicole Barreira, Executive Chef of Cactus Jacks/TBones, Rick Broussard, Editor of NH Magazine
and Mike Morin, radio personality, author and self-proclaimed "foodie" had the yeoman's job of
tasting each and every chili and determining the place winners
Jeff Dearborn and Contoocook Blues Society played two smokin' sets with Rotarian Ruth Zax sitting
in for a few bluesy tunes. Amid this festive atmosphere, the beer flowed, the crowd sampled and
over 1700 ballots were cast to determine the Peoples' Choice winners in the professional and amateur categories.
The money raised at Chili Fest comes right back into the community, providing scholarships to high
school students, supporting food pantries, sending kids to summer camp, sponsoring the DECA clubs
and offering grants to area non-profit organizations.
Some of the funds are also dedicated to regional and international service and humanitarian projects
such as the rebuilding effort in Vermont after Hurricane Irene, eradicating polio and helping
to make safe drinking water available in water-scarce countries.
The Rotary Club receives an enormous amount of community volunteer support to put this event on
each year. In addition to the club members and their families, teams from the NEC Women's
Field Hockey and Men's Soccer Teams, Hillsboro-Deering DECA, the Henniker and Hillsboro Fire
Departments, White Birch Community Center, Pats Peak the Henniker Rescue Squad and over
40 community members help out at Chili Fest, doing all the things that have to happen behind
the scenes to make an event of this magnitude successful.
We are especially grateful to our community sponsors who provide the seed money to make this
event happen: Ameriprise, Ayer & Goss, Davis & Towle, Edmunds Ace Hardware, Grappone Automotive,
Henniker Farm & Country Store, Henniker Pharmacy, Henniker Veterinary Hospital, Morse Sporting
Goods, Pats Peak, R.C. Brayshaw, Scott Dias Custom Building Inc, TD Bank, TDS Telecom,
White Birch Community Center and to our media partners, Granite Quill Publishers, Lakeside
Design and 96.5 The Mill.
